Chapter 10

Cassie grabbed a bagel from the breakroom Monday morning, spreading cream cheese all over one half. “Oh, who brought bagels?” Olivia asked, walking in with her purse swinging over her forearm. “I didn’t eat this morning, and those look awesome.”

Cassie glanced down at the thank you note. “Someone we developed an app for. I’m not sure. They sent enough for a crowd though.”

“I can see that,” Olivia said, snagging a blueberry one for herself. She sidled up to Cassie, grinning. “So? I didn’t hear from you all weekend. Dinner was good with Rob last Thursday? I wasn’t here Friday to get all the deets.”

“Dinner was great. We went out again Saturday, too.”

“You’re kidding!” Olivia shrieked.

Cassie shot her a look. “No, I’m not kidding. And shhh. I don’t need the entire office to know.”

“Sorry, sorry. I haven’t been laid in so long, I need to live vicariously through you,” she said with a wink.

“We didn’t sleep together,” Cassie said, flushing. Rob had walked her to her apartment door and kissed her thoroughly once again though. It had started off chaste and sweet like on the beach, but she’d pulled him toward her, clutching onto his shirt. Heat bloomed across her skin just thinking about it. She used to meet men, go on a date or two, then call things off. Clearly, she’d been going about life all wrong. Dating a man she already knew made her feel safe. Happy. Obviously, they weren’t a couple yet, but things were going well so far.

“I know. I’m just teasing you. What’d you guys do Saturday?”

“We grabbed breakfast at this little diner. It was fun. Rob picked me up again and—what?”

Olivia grinned. “You like him.”

“Of course I like him. I wouldn’t go out with him if I didn’t.”

“So, breakfast after he didn’t spend the night. Hmmm. He must really be into you.”

“Olivia,” Cassie said, rolling her eyes. “He’s nice. And you sound just like Addison.”

“Um-hmmm. That’s because we’re right. Is he a good kisser?”

Cassie flushed, not answering, and Olivia burst into laughter. “Damn, woman. Good for you. My weekend wasn’t nearly so exciting. Spin class, carry-out, that sort of thing.”

“There’s always Havoc,” Cassie pointed out.

“Owen? He likes to flirt and rile me up, but no. I’m guessing he’s got a long list of women he’s already been with. Why add to his ego?”

“Um, because you like him?”

Olivia shrugged. “I could do worse. I feel like he’s the type of guy that would want some innocent virgin or something.”

Cassie burst into laughter. “Owen? You’ve got to be kidding me. He’s more rough and tumble than all of them. He wouldn’t know what to do with a woman like that.”

“Maybe you’re right. Regardless, I don’t intend to be next on what is no doubt a long list of women. I’m sure he’d be amazing in bed, but then where would we be?”

“Dating? A couple? You’re always hanging around each other.”

“Nope. Sorry, sister. He’s fun to go at it with, but that’s it.”

Cassie shook her head, taking a bite of her bagel.
